GetType is a CLI tool that enables the user to scan files on a harddrive
and return their identification. This version knows over a thousand
filetypes, such as StoneCracker, PowerPacker, AMOS sources, OctaMED modules,
ProTracker modules, audio samples and many more...
The program is FREEWARE, so you pay nothing, just e-mail the author :-)
Features:
o Knows approx. 1130 filetypes using Idm.library.
o The output can be extensively configured via the LFMT parameter.
o Set commment of each file with identification string - optional.
o Specify how fast the program should perform via IOLEN parameter.
o Ignores Workbench icon files (#?.info) - optional.
o Use FileID.library (included) by BLOODROCK. This enables GetType to check
files with a database of approx. 1700+ filetypes - optional.
o Display only the filetypes you want to find via the IDPAT parameter.
o Scan all sub-directories - optional.
o Identification engine (Idm.library) is developed in assembly for speed.
o Low memory requirements.
o Full AmigaDOS style wildcard support. Handy if your HD contains many files.
o Force the output to a requester.
o Its FREEWARE, just send me an e-mail if you use it.
If you would like to see any additions to this feature list, why not contact

Changes for 1.12: (18.Feb.1999)
o GT is now able to determine a file's type via its filename.
o Added NNM=NONAMEMATCH/S parameter.
o Added NAMETYPES/S parameter.
o Extended LFMT parameter, added %1, %2 and %3 format codes.
o For completeness I added support for C style newlines \n in the LFMT
parameter.
o The output of GT can now be forced to a WB requester by using the
REQ/S parameter.
o More minor changes.
o GT has more tolerance now when it comes to errors. It won't quit
on the first error it encounters, instead it will attempt to
continue with the scan.
o You can now pass more then one file/dir name to GT in a single command
line. This makes GT more powerful when used with DOpus or DirWork.
o Extended the LFMT parameter by adding the %c format code. This will
enable you to insert file comments into the output.
o Also added the %b code to the LFMT parameter, this enables the user
to insert the amount of blocks a file takes up.
o For convenience, I added GT_Types.txt to the archive.
